United States Postal Service P and DC facility, Miami, FL
USPS Miami is a 480,000 square foot United States Postal Service Distribution Center. This was a design build project for The Korte Company and Jarrell Mechanical Contractors. The HVAC/Plumbing design is consistent with the buildings energy efficiency guidelines and exceeds the solicitation requirements that are 30% above ASHRAE 90.1 2004.
The building’s heating and cooling needs are served by 18 fifty ton RTU’s for the mail processing facility. The office and multipurpose area is served by 5 twenty ton variable air volume RTU’s with gas heat. These areas are zoned with electric reheat variable air volume boxes. All 23 RTU’s and 20 exhaust fans were tied down with extensive hurricane bracing. The state of the art energy management/building automation system was designed and installed by Jarrell. We designed an extensive compressed air system serving the many USPS equipment for sorting the mail and maintenance.
There are 143 plumbing fixtures for the entire distribution center and 10 water heaters, ranging in size from small instantaneous point-of-use units to a single 80 gallon unit. Electric water coolers are located throughout the workroom such that there is a cooler within 200’ of walking distance. Roof hydrants and exterior wall hydrants provide for ease of maintenance of all mechanical equipment and the facility itself. An internal roof drain system comprised of 22 drains services the facility with scuppered overflow drains as a secondary system.
